Color Me Wayne Thiebaud

I read a great article yesterday by Ian Storm Taylor regarding color and the use of black in art and design. The best looking stuff isn’t a true black. He pointed to artist, Wayne Thiebaud.

That sent me on a rabbit trail hunting for Wayne’s work. If you just google the man, an array of beautiful dessert still lifes (lives?) come up. Though reminiscent of pop art, “his work does not critique the iconic imagery of American society and consumer culture, but embraces it instead.” (found on artnet)

Definitely saving these for color inspiration for my book.

If you can find it, go out and buy a copy of the Wayne Thiebaud Sketchbook. Its a great resource to see how very raw ideas become his beautiful paintings. WT is a master.
