About all this hullabaloo

They call me Becky because I like to draw. I’m a freelance designer and illustrator living in Austin, Texas.

Chipper Things started when I was in the market for a punny name for my wood burns. I started this little hobby a couple years ago when I moved to Waco from Iowa and didn’t know anyone. Over the next two-and-a-half years I sold my craft on Etsy, started the blog, quit the Etsy, wrote and illustrated a book*, quit my job, moved to Austin, and now I work for myself. (You can do it too, I promise.)

*I’d Rather Be Short happened because I wished it already existed. I didn’t particularly like my stature at the time, and I wanted someone to tell me it was awesome (because it is). I decided to take care of it myself, and luckily it worked out. Getting published is a dream come true and I can’t wait to see it on shelves this fall (Plume). Sneak peek here.

I think you are pretty rad. I just found your blog via some other blog that posed one of your Short doodles. And you have quickly made the other stuff I read online seem super boring. Glad you write and draw and say neat things.

Yay for the short people of the world:) I am four feet nine inches, and I embrace it. I figure if I can’t be willowy, I may as well play the little and cute card (at 37 years old)!

You’re so welcome! Keep up the good work! It looks like we’re both sort of attempting a similar type of lifestyle where we “do our thing”. Isn’t it AWESOME?? Hard work, but rewarding. Best, -R
